Sandra “Dumb Nanny” D. (Stabley) Heffner, of Airville, went from life to Life Eternal, very peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at 12:00am on Saturday, June 17, 2023 at the age of 78. She was the wife of Woodrow C. Heffner who entered into rest on March 21, 2013.
Sandra was born on June 24, 1944 in York and was the daughter of the late Elmer W. and Catherine L. (Gladfelter) Stabley. She was a dishwasher at the Brown Cow and was a bus driver for 15 years at the Red Lion Bus Company where she met Woodrow. She loved traveling all over, camping, bowling, bingo and hunting as well as spending time with her family.
She leaves her two daughters, Patricia A. Strausbaugh and husband, Richard of Rockport, Texas, Penny L. Reich of Airville and her son, Wilbur “Butch” C. Delp and wife, Darlene of Manchester. She leaves her granddaughters, April M. Murtorff and husband, Scott of Toledo, Ohio, Nicole A. Reich of Airville, Mandy Oswalt of Dallastown and Autumn Weber and husband, Brad, her grandsons, Brian L. Macklin and wife, Trisha of Delta, Ohio, Jason Mackin and wife, Tammy of Spring Grove, Eric M. Reich and wife, Britny of Airville, William Delp and wife, Lacey, Benjamin Delp and wife, Bobbie, as well as her numerous great grandchildren. She also leaves her great great grandson, Dexter W. Jackson of Waterville, Ohio, her three sisters, Lorraine Gladfelter, Pat Bemisidiffer, Deb Kearney and her two brothers, Sterling Kinard and Kenneth Kopp. She leaves her two very dear friends, Theresa Schweitzer of Felton and Louise DeStephano of Windsor. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Todd Alan Runkle, who entered into rest on March of 1970, a daughter, Lisa Irene Runkle in June of 1976, her brothers, Irwin “Sonny” Stabley and William Leader and her grandson, L. Curvin Hodge on September 27, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her close friend and former husband, Stanley “Steamer” Runkle in September of 2007.
A viewing for Sandra will take place at Wagner-Elfner and Burg Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion on Wednesday, June 21, 2023 from 1-2pm. A funeral service will begin at 2pm with Rev. Chris Starr, Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow the service in McKendree United Methodist Cemetery.
